About the Presidio

The San Francisco Presidio, also known as El Presidio de San Francisco, was a fortified village built by the Spanish in 1776. It played a crucial role in the early history of San Francisco and served as a military post for many years.

The Presidio was an important military installation during the Spanish American War, housing and training large numbers of troops. Many units passed through the Presidio on their way to and from the Philippines. Over the years, the military improved troop facilities and made significant changes to the Presidio

The Presidio is located in a stunning natural setting. It offers breathtaking views of the Golden Gate Bridge, the Pacific Ocean, and the surrounding landscape. The Presidio forest and the Presidio Golf Course are among the natural attractions within the area.
